Due to lack of a good ruler and invasions of the Bahamanis, the kingdom was becoming weak under king Virupaxa. Saluwa Narsimharaya , a general,  became popular in the empire because of his Valor. His influence was slowly increasing and by 1447 he had the eastern and northern parts of the empire under his control. Later he dethroned King Virupaxa . He ruled for the period 1485 to 1490. During his reign many chieftains rose against him.

Narsimharaya was blessed with two sons. Narasanayaka was appointed to take care of his children . But Narasanayaka started exploiting people and started thinking himself as the king. The elder son was murdered and the younger son, Narsimha the second, ascended the throne. His reign was not successfull and he died in 1503. After him,  Viranarasimha, his son took the control of the kingdom.
