The Karnataka Tourism is planning to soon add an illuminations Tour “Hampi By Night ” in its offering to the numerous tourists visiting Hampi.  Generally the visitors are adviced not to wander around the ruins after sunset but now the tourism authorities are planning to  extend the timings to as late as 11 P.M.   Specially designed battery operated cars would be added to the fleet to help tourists to visit the ruins at night. The  illuminated ruins covering around 15 sq Kms of the region will mesmerize the visitors and would be comparable to those of the illuminations Tours in Cities like Paris. Additionaly, the government also intends to introduce dining with live cultural performances at night. The plan is to glorify the rich cultural heritage of Hampi and make tourists feel at home.

The tour will start from Monolith Ganesha.  From there, the tour will proceed to the top of  Hemakuta Hill to take a glance at the ruins of southern Hampi and the beautiful landscape on the western side. After that,  the tour will pass through a group of scattered temples on the northern slope and would reach the Virupaksha temple. From here, the tourists will sit  in battery operated cars and will pass through  Hampi Bazaar, viewing the illuminated ancient “gopuras” and mantaps.  A recorded track would be played in the background descibing the glorious period of the Vijaynagar empire
